ICI DESERT is a photography and poetry book depicting an emotional itinerary from an African city lying along the Niger River: Niamey, to the western part of the Ténéré desert. Photographer Randa Mirza and writer/performer Ritta Baddoura went on a journey across Niger’s contrasted scenery. Impregnated by the perceptual changes of time, space, light and temperature, the poems and the photos reflect on the intimate encounter with the human and natural landscapes.

ICI DESERT names the desert as a mysterious and fundamental place of initiation and as a magnifying glass of the beauties and horrors of private and public realities.

ICI DESERT has been granted the Culture Resource's Production Award and will be published in 2009 by Saqi books.
