SELF-PORTRAIT WITH REMOTE CONTROL is a video featuring a single image that shakes endlessly on the tv screen (giving the viewer the impression of gazing at film that was paused). It is an aspect of my upcoming project THE CULTURE OF SHOCK that questions media, tourism and war photography.
I started working on THE CULTURE OF SHOCK project while i was on a residency in Finland during the summer of 2006 when the war unexpectedly broke in Lebanon. I spend the 33 days of "July's war" watching the news from the safety of my Finish exil. I woke up one day realising that i became the spectator of my own pain.
